BIO

COLORFIELDS was conceived in 1997 by drummer- songwriter Ash Read (The Streaks, The Zap Dragons, Strawbelly) as a live electronica band seeking to combine elements of the exploding electronic dance music scene with an authentically live rhythmic core. The Colorfields sound draws inspiration from a wide variety of musical genres ranging from the swirling psychedelic rock of classic bands like Pink Floyd to the live dance giants, Faithless; from the edgy sonic trip-hop songs of Massive Attack to traditional and tribal World music beats, while the thought provoking content and social commentary draws much inspiration from Eco-anarchist philosophy.

Debut Album Incidents (1998)

This album was described by Stephen “Sugar” Segerman as “one of the most electric and thrilling indie SA albums of the decade”. After a brief and intense period of touring, during which they shared the stage with Hip-hop giants, Cypress Hill, Colorfields disbanded due to Ash’s crippling drug-addiction - that very same addiction being the central theme running through the Incidents album.
